AccessMedicine (i.e. ACM or "Access" app) is an online medical resource that provides students with the tools they need to excel in basic and advanced studies, clerkships, and crucial test prep. AccessMedicine is available in the CHSL list of databases and the "Access" app is available for download on mobile devices. ACM provides residents, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants with interactive content, self-assessment, and leading medical texts to enhance decision-making at the point-of-care. It and allows for practicing physicians to brush up on their medicalknowledge to ensure best patient outcomes. It includes a complete full-text library of clinical and basic science textbooks, including Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine, 20e, CURRENT Medical Diagnosis & Treatment, The Color Atlas of Family Medicine, 2e, and many others.

App Features

With the Access app, you can:

  • View content anytime, anywhere via the app or the web. 

  • Search within content and refine by content type so you can personalize your learning experience.

  • Favorite content to revisit later, such as videos, images, tables, chapters, podcasts, and more.

  • Create collections, making it easier and quicker to find important and timely resources.

  • Browse recently viewed content and curated recommendations on your personal dashboard.

  • Sync your favorites and collections between the app and the web through your profile.

How to Download the Free App

  1. In your Apple or Android app store, search for and download the Access - by McGraw Hill app. This is a free of charge app but requires your institution to be subscribed to AccessMedicine.

  1. First time users will select, New to Access? Create Profile.
  2. When prompted to enter your institution name, search for and select Cleveland Health Sciences Case Western Reserve Univ.
  3. Finish completing your profile and log in. 

Tips: You can set up your account using any email address. We recommend saving your login information using a password manager, usually available on your device. To keep your Access profile authenticated, sign on via your institution’s network every 90 days.

Study Tools

Study Tools in AccessMedicine provides thousands of review Q&A for board exam preparation and recertification and other resources, including:

  • Procedural videos, lectures, interactive modules, and other engaging content.
  • Review Questions texts which are great for self-assessment with review Q&A designed to help residents, clerks, and physicians. Users can generate random and custom quizzes from the texts, and the results can be emailed. The review texts are organized into basic sciences and clinical practice & board review categories. 
  • Clerkship Topics: This curated collection of study materials brings together all clerkship specific resources and covers every major topic of the internal medical clerkship, featuring select chapters and cases from across the AccessMedicine library, including text references, case files, and videos on essential concepts and procedures clerks may observe or assist in during their rotation. 
  • Flashcards: Interactive flashcards to supplement your studies.
  • Infographics: Display content in a high-level, visually appealing manner.

Cases

Cases in AccessMedicine provide materials for short, targeted case-based learning. They vary slightly, but for each case you get a patient history and systems review, short answer questions, clinical pearls, references, and a comprehensive quiz. The results of the quizzes can be emailed and collected for a grade, e.g., student to instructor. Cases are durable URL-enabled and can be linked to in coursework, e.g., LMS course page, lecture slides, syllabus, etc. See the "Linking to Content" box in this guide to find out more about linking to content on AccessMedicine for course integration.

Faculty can link to content in AccessMedicine through their LMS using the durable URLs found in the browser of all text and chapter content, multimedia, cases, study tools, and clerkship content.
